Printer Missing a Color? Cross-Check the CMYK Channel

If cyan, magenta, yellow or black appears absent, check the same channel in two different parts of the controlled sheet before assuming the exact cause.

Signal 1: the channel's line row

Zone A contains a separate controlled line row for K, C, M and Y. The analyzer classifies those known elements as complete, partial, missing or uncertain.

Signal 2: the solid channel field

Zone D provides a separate solid field for each CMYK channel. Agreement between weak line output and a severely reduced solid field gives stronger evidence of a channel-level problem than either signal alone.

If only one signal looks bad

Treat the result cautiously. Uneven lighting, a poor photo or a pattern-specific artifact can affect one measurement. Retake the photo or print another controlled page before escalating maintenance.

If the same color is still missing

Use the printer manufacturer's built-in nozzle/print-quality check and normal maintenance procedure for the exact model. Canon's inkjet documentation, for example, uses missing colors or missing lines in its native nozzle-check pattern as a reason to proceed to print-head cleaning.
