Printer Head Cleaning - Measure Before You Repeat It

Cleaning consumes ink, so start with evidence. Print one controlled baseline, use the normal manufacturer procedure if it is indicated, then retest with the same settings.

Before cleaning: keep a baseline

Print the standardized sheet before changing anything. Record which CMYK row or banding field is affected rather than relying on memory of a normal document.

Use the normal model-specific maintenance procedure

Do not jump straight to deep, power or repeated cleaning because a generic page says “clog.” Manufacturer instructions vary by model and can use increasing amounts of ink at higher cleaning levels.

After cleaning: compare the same pattern

Use the same paper, Color mode, quality setting and scale. The analyzer stores the latest underlying metrics locally for the selected printer/page format so a new result can be compared with the previous one.

If there is no meaningful improvement

Stop treating repeated cleaning as a universal fix and return to the printer's model-specific support flow. HP documentation for some inkjet diagnostic pages explicitly asks users to review a new diagnostic print after cleaning/alignment before continuing to further steps.
